The earth is overcrowded, and under-resourced. Humans have not yet conquered space travel to inhabitable locations.
The only choice left is to adapt to survive.
The human impact on the environment has led to flooding of the continent's shorelines, the increase in global temperatures, and a premium on clean, accessible water sources. The innovative solution to humanity's need rapidly caught the attention of nations worldwide, spreading across the globe like wildfire.
The solution was, in its simplicity, to become more like the animals that thrived in the inhospitable regions of the globe. Thus, a global race began to incorporate animal traits into human DNA, aiming to better adapt to harsher environments and expand habitability into previously unsustainable areas.
Countries around the world made significant inroads in manipulating human genetic code, successfully creating camps of modified humans. These efforts were not isolated, as scientists globally studied the changes and adaptability of these new humans to their environments.
The United States government, recognizing the potential of this movement, was one of the first to invest heavily, establishing the US Department of Habitation Expansion (DoHE) on July 4th, 2062. This initiative spurred similar actions in other nations, each contributing to a collective effort to redefine human resilience and survival in the face of environmental challenges.
